Title I

The Pinnacle Charter School is partially funded with Federal Title grants. This funding provides opportunities for educational programming that benefits all Pinnacle students.

As a parent of a student at The Pinnacle Charter School, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teacher who instructs your child. This is a requirement for all districts and schools that receive Title I funds. Federal law allows you to request certain information about your student’s classroom teacher. The law also requires us to give you this information in a timely manner upon request. You have the right to ask for the following information about your student’s classroom teachers:

• Whether the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) has licensed or endorsed your student’s teacher for the grades and subjects taught.
• Whether CDE has decided that your student’s teacher can teach in a classroom without being licensed or qualified under state regulations because of special circumstances.
• The teacher’s college major; whether the teacher has any advanced degrees, and, if so, the subject of the degrees.
• Whether any teachers’ aides or similar para-educators provide services to your child and, if they do, their qualifications.

Teacher Qualifications

At Pinnacle, we believe that flexibility in being able to employ an instructional staff with diverse experiences yields greater success in the classroom and school environment.  With a waiver from teacher licensure statute, C.R.S. 22-63-201, The Pinnacle Charter School has the ability to employ educators from a wide variety of backgrounds, including but not limited to teachers from out-of-state, teachers with a lapsed Colorado certificate, persons with several years of successful teaching experience in a setting not requiring a license, as well as persons with business or professional experience. 

On December 10, 2015, President Obama signed the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) into law. The law states that any school that receives funds for educationally disadvantaged students (Title I funds) must inform parents if their child is assigned a teacher for four or more consecutive weeks who is has not met applicable State certification or licensure requirements at the grade level and subject area in which they have been assigned to teach.

Because Pinnacle holds a waiver, your child’s teacher may or may not hold a valid Colorado teacher’s license, however, he/she holds a bachelor’s degree or higher and the Pinnacle has verified that your child’s teacher meets the Colorado subject matter competency criteria for your child’s grade level and subject area. Teachers can demonstrate subject matter competency by holding a bachelor’s degree or higher in the subject for which they are assigned, passing a state approved content exam, or having 24 semester credit hours in the subject for which they are assigned (36 hours beginning in the 2019-2020 school year).

The core academic subjects are English; Reading or Language Arts; Mathematics; Science; Foreign Languages; Social Studies (Civics, Government, Economics, History, Geography); and The Arts (Visual Arts, Drama, Music). The Pinnacle strives to always place teachers designated as highly qualified into classrooms. However, should this not be possible, parents will be informed in writing.

Derecho a Saber

• Si el Departamento de Educación de Colorado (CDE) ha autorizado o aprobado el maestro de su estudiante para los grados y materias impartidas.
• Si CDE ha decidido que el maestro de su estudiante puede enseñar en un salón de clases sin tener licencia o calificado bajo las regulaciones estatales debido a circunstancias especiales.
• La especialidad del maestro, si el maestro tiene algún título de posgrado, y de ser así, el tema de los grados.
• Si algún asistente de maestros o para-educadores similares ofrecen servicios a su hijo y, si lo hacen, sus calificaciones.

Con una exención del estatuto de licencia, C.R.S. 22-63-201, La escuela Pinnacle Charter tiene la habilidad de emplear educadores de una amplia variedad de antecedentes, que incluye pero no se limitan a educadores fuera del estado, educadores con certificados de Colorado, personas con varios años de experiencia exitosa en un entorno que no requiere una licencia, al igual que personas con experiencia comercial o profesional.
