Safe Schools

At The Pinnacle Charter School, student, staff, and community safety is a top priority.  Please review the following resources to learn more about what all members of our school community can do to help promote safety.

Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA)

Memorandum:
To: The Pinnacle Community
From: Bill Rosell, Director of Facilities
Re: Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA)
Date: February 10, 2014

We are conscientious about the health and safety, faculty, building occupants, and contractors who work in our facility.  During the summer of 2011, we had our facility inspected for asbestos-containing materials by Stiles Environmental & Industrial Hygiene, LLC, an asbestos inspection and consulting firm.  The inspection results were evaluated and asbestos was detected in the wall plaster identified on the original perimeter wall of the high school.  An asbestos management plan was developed by a certified management planner at Stiles Environmental documenting these findings and submitted to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment for approval.  We have copies of this approved asbestos inspection report and management plan in our main office and our maintenance office for review.

The EPA's Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) requires us to perform periodic surveillance every six (6) months for known or presumed asbestos-containing materials in our buildings.  This is to determine overall condition o the material and ensure the material has not been, or has the potential of being, disturbed.  Also, these materials need to be re-inspected every three (3) years by a certified asbestos building inspector to ascertain any change in condition.

We intend to fully comply with all relevant EPA and OSHA regulations in our facility and will be closely monitoring all asbestos related activities and installation of new building materials.  We look forward to working with you in the future to provide a healthy and safe learning and working environment for our students, staff, and contractors.
